The solution varies depending on what you are being prompted for. This workaround also may apply to any other language for the Visual Studio Shell Integrated , and the instructions are similar for Visual Studio Shell Isolated through the download location and file names will be different.
In general, prompts for source during patch install occur because a file installed by a product is missing or in an unexpected state.
Windows Installer requires the original source to get these files. My question centers on problems associated to that set of steps. Problem 1: I don't have the original VS install media. Problem 2: when I install the FCU, it doesn't actually make any difference.
Answering my own question Also, to re-iterate, the installation order I used to get the Forward Compatibility Update to install, was the same as has been suggested elsewhere on this question, and also elsewhere on the internet: VS Team Explorer VS SP1 Forward Compatibility Update.
